I work at an international grocery store, customer service section. The store is well known in the community to be Korean owned. I mentioned this because plays a small part in my experience. I have a lot of different races and nationalities, come to return, complain, or ask where certain items are, which is fine. But this one old Korean lady comes up to my counter, slams down her item and asks me, "Are you Korean?" I calmly said, "No." She looks at me and says, "Well I am Korean." I am thinking in my head, "Well that's great, but I don't give a rats ass."
She then begins to yell at me, and tells me that the product is bad and how she had to go out of her way to drive back to the store, to return this product. I calmly told her that I would refund her the money. I get the receipt an the item price is $2.49. By the way, during the time she was giving me the receipt to when I pulled the money out of the register to return to her, she was raging about how bad the product was. As I was giving her the money, she looks at me dead in the eye and tells me that she wants $2.99 because that's the current price. At this point I was really frustrated, and said, "No, you paid $2.49 and that's what I am going to give to you." She gave me hell about not giving her $2.99, but at this point I didn't give a f**k, and put the $2.49 on the table and just stood there looking at her.
Here's the kicker though, she then demands that I pay her gas money for her commute from her house to the store. At this point I am thinking in my head, "WTF, did you just get off of Korean Air?" I told her in a raised voice, " No we do not give out gas money, just because you wanted to refund an item, try going to Target and see if they will give you gas money!" She replies with a demanding voice, "Where is your manager?" During this time, the store manager is directly behind me in the office doing some paper work. I replied, "I am the manager!"
She snickers and asks, "Is this grocery store Chinese owned. It is isn't it?" I stared into her sagging old lady eyes, and shouted. "This store is 100% Korean owned!" which is bull, because it was half owned by a Chinese and Korean man. She then glares at me for a moment and then storms off. I told this to my store manager who was Korean and then he just laughed.
More thoughts and experiences to come. Thanks for reading
