I come from "business oriented" family background and graduated with a Business Administration degree. After getting out of college and surviving the real world for about 5 years, I have talked to many of my old friends about their current job status. Some don't have jobs, and some do. Some like their jobs and some don't. Some do it for the money and some do it because it's their passion.
After talking with friends and looking at tons of job posts, I have come to believe that everyone should have some sort of business knowledge, whether it would be high school, 13th grade (community college), or university level. Let me give you some examples.
1. A dentist's practice will not survive long if he is to provide services without compensation. Therefore he needs to learn a little about "business processes."
2. A genius, computer information system tech, who has life made because a corporation is paying him 100k + a year to maintain their servers. Okay, well he provides the service to the company which in turns provides service to another company for compensation. What were to happen if the company asks him to build a new server, maintain it, and asks him for his opinion as to how much it money it would take to maintain and build, and how to sell the idea to the prospecting company. Most companies will have different departments doing sales, analysts and marketing, but times have changed and companies are consolidating their workers, making them do more for less.
3. You are a pharmacist tech, you just got fired, and no one will hire you. How would you earn income then? You would most likely have to start your own business. I don't care if you have to prostitute yourself, your still doing business.
Another way to prove my point is, let me ask you this. Have you ever thought about creating your own business? Think about that time in your life, where you thought to yourself. Man, it would be great if I could start a business for this. At least 80% of you will say yes. 10% will say no because they have a passion to become a nun or work for a non profit organization of some sort, which is fine. The last 10% are already in business and have done it.
Business: is defined as the exchange of goods or services for monetary or other compensating value.
So in essence, I believe everyone should learn about or get an idea about how businesses process works.
